Owner/Producer of Brent Gummow Media Productions in Toledo, Ohio from March of 1997 to present. I started the company in Eureka, California after realizing the poor job market of the area would not be able to offer me the opportunities that I desired. The company has mainly been a freelance operation that helps out other media production companies. To date, the client that I have done the most work with is C.J. Studios in Eureka, CA where I became the main editor and one of the primary cameramen for the areas only true independent production company. Possibly the most exciting work was developing and producing "Vortex Videos" a weekly 60 minute alternative music video program that aired on leased access cable in Eureka from May through September of 1998. I also co-produced "The Buyer's Market," a weekly real estate program that still airs in Eureka today. Currently I have been doing a lot of work on web pages and video production with non-profits in the Greater Toledo area.
Assistant Media Specialist at CollegeView Inc. in Cincinnati, Ohio from January to December 1995. I started as
an intern and eventually became a part-time employee. I was even offered a full-time position before graduation.
CollegeView is a software publishing company that creates multimedia presentations for universities and distributes
them on CD ROM to high schools around the world. I was responsible for all of the audio clips and some of the video
clips that appeared in these presentations. Also during my time at CollegeView, I initiated and maintained a production
tracking database for all the current schools and learned about corporate structure.
Producer/Director/Talent at Brand-X Videos in Cincinnati, Ohio from August 1993 to November 1995. Brand-X
Videos is a weekly alternative music video television show that is run by Xavier University students. I started off with
the show by becoming a VJ, on-air talent, during my Sophomore year. By the beginning of my Junior year I had risen
to the rank of Producer. I also directed every other episode so that I was either on camera or directing just about
every show. As Producer, I was responsible for screening the 10 to 30 reels of videos that would come in every
week. I would then have to program a playlist for that week. I was also required to maintain our video library of over
2,500 tapes. The highlight of my time at Brand-X Videos is when I successfully initiated and completed the move of
the show from cable access to broadcast television. I also received enormous amounts of directing experience, while
also learning the use of cameras, VTRs, lighting, switchers, and the audio board.
Resident Assistant (RA) at Xavier University, Office of Residence Life from August 1993 to May 1995. I spent
two years on the staff of the all Freshman residence hall on campus. My responsibilities were basically everything
imaginable, but most notably the supervision, programming, discipline, and helping meet the needs of a 35 person wing.
I received countless hours of training in peer counseling, effective listening, and conflict management. The main things
that I learned from this job was how to deal with stress and how to work on a team, but I also learned how to employ
organizational, administrative, and budgeting skills.
Undergraduate Assistant at The Xavier Entrepreneurial Center from August 1992 to May 1993. The XEC is an
organization that was designed to help start up and maintain local small business. They sent out informative brochures
and set up conferences and meetings for networking. I came in and basically found myself writing all of the letters for
the director as well as maintaining the mailing database of close to 3000 names. I also edited the professional
newsletter and organized and ran several student and professional conferences. For my work at the Xavier
Entrepreneurial Center I won the runner up Xavier Student Employee of the Year Award.
Production Volunteer for KEET TV (PBS) in Eureka, CA from November 1996 to September 1998. I became an integral part of this PBS affiliate's production team by assisting them several times a year on camera and in the control booth for a variety of taped and live events.
Production Intern for Pinnacle Productions in Perrysburg, OH during the Summer of 1995. I worked on the lighting and gripping for a variety of in-house and remote shoots, in addition to assisting with audio and graphics. Finally, I created the company's first examples of 3D graphics by doing animations for both Mitsubishi and Owens Illinois in Infini-D.
